Report: Jay-Z planning Times Square concert

Listen to Jay-Z on iHeartRadio

Jay-Z may be planning to take New York's Times Square by storm.  According to the "New York Post," the rapper is planning to hold a surprise concert atop the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater next month.

Sources tell the newspaper Jay is finalizing plans for a July 8th appearance on CBS's "Late Show With David Letterman," which is recorded in the Ed Sullivan Theater.  Back in 2010, the rapper planned to host a similar concert, but the performance was nixed by the city over concerns about the large crowd it would have attracted.  One law enforcement official tells the "Post" that if the concert is given the green light, there will have to be a "strong police presence," adding that it will be chaos with so many fans.

Meantime, for the third straight day, Jay-Z released lyrics to a new song through the Samsung Mobile app promoting his upcoming album.  Titled "Oceans," the latest song features Odd Future singer Frank Ocean.  The track references subjects such as the transatlantic slave trade and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.  Jay-Z's latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail is set to arrive on July 4th.
